Kind of cool
So I woke up today and saw that the United States last night shot down a satellite from orbit. I don't know why but I find this to be amazing.
I am still amazed by space. No matter how tangible it becomes to me (GPS, Satellite TV, etc.) it's always going to be one of those things that seems surreal to me. It's amazing to think of the sheer amount of technology and engineering that we as a culture have achieved that makes things like this possible. Someone decided that they were going to pluck something from space and a day later it happened. It's not like this would like Kennedy said we are going to space and 5 years later we did it, it's amazing to see how far we have come as a people.
Also just as intruiging to me though is the real world geo-political statement we just made. We decided we were going to shoot something out of the space and did it. It's blaringly obvious this was pretty much just to show the world that we could do it if we wanted to. It wasn't about toxic fuel or hitting someone's house with a satelitte, it was showing each and every person in the world that we can hit anything anywhere with a missile. That takes so hootsbah (I don't know yiddish, so I don't know if that's right or not).
Also the fact that it looked like the death star when it blew up was kind of cool too.
