Domestic bliss
I bought my house when I was very single.
Really it just seemed like the thing to do. I had a good job and the real estate market seemed like the place to be ... and all my friends were doing it so I caved to peer pressure. So the house I bought had a huge yard and lots of landscaping. At the time I thought "oh wow that'll be awesome for parties". What I didn't realize was that as a single guy was that I didn't have the motivation to do the landscaping most of the time. Really my busy schedule of care free life didn't really leave time for it. So there ended up being a lot of "under cared for" flower beds and other landscaping. It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing but nothing too horrible.
So flash forward a couple of years to the first spring as a married man. When the grass started to grow in the places it probably shouldn't and Cora recoiled in horror, while funny, it wasn't exactly the response one would hope for.
So needless to say we did a little landscaping this weekend ... which turned into a lot of landscaping. You're going to look at this picture and go, that doesn't seem like it would be that bad. But each one of these beds had some pretty thick grass growing in them, so we would till out the top layer of dirt, then we would have to scoop out a couple inches of dirt and do it all over again. Plus the bushes we took out had some extensive root systems so as we went to plant that just became annoying. So a little touch up ended up being about 6 hours straight of landscaping.
But I'm happy with the way it turned out.
Also, the picture was taken with our new fancy pants camera. Cora wrote a pretty detailed post about it.
