Blizzard '08
So since there was a blizzard this weekend, I probably spent a good 80% of my awake time in front of a computer of some sort and managed to get out exactly .... zero blog posts. That's pretty weak, if you ask me.
However I did manage, unsuccessfully might I add, to not become any good at photoshop. I tried to make a banner for my wife's blog but didn't actually finish any of my ideas. It's way harder than it looks. I figured it was a computer program and I'm a computer programmer so I would be able to figure it out pretty easily ... but sadly it was not the case.
It may have taken me about 4 hours but I did figure out that Time Warner will not allow me to set up a VPN server out of my basement. One of the perks of taking 4+ years in grad school is that microsoft will give you free software. My latest score was a version of Server 2003. I am really digging it in a geeky kind of way. It lets me do everything I want to do with out having to learn linux. But anyway, it lets your set up a VPN Server pretty easily (after installing a second LAN card) so I thought it would be a cool way to sync up my work stuff. But after going to all the hassle I found out the Time Warner blocks the port you need to run it. Yet another reason to hate them.
I also have unsuccessfully tried to connect to my video camera. I have inherited a Canon ZR40 and I've decided since I have it why not use it? (Really I just wanted to upload my little brothers German project to youtube.) So I installed a PCI firewire card I had lying around the house and then downloaded the Canon software in hopes it would be that easy... sadly once agin it was not. But I'm hoping to figure that one out pretty soon.
Also I dominated in basketball. So there you have it, blizzard weekend '08
